That night there was much feasting and song in the court, and they slept together. Then Gronw rose up and subdued Ardudwy, and ruled it so that Ardudwy and Penllyn were under his sway.
Then the tidings reached Math son of Mathonwy. He was grieved an heavy-hearted, and Gwydion more than he by far. Then Gwydion set out and began to go his way. He traversed Gwynedd and the length and breadth of Powys in search of Lleu, of whom no-one had heard. Lleu and a small retinue of twelve knights had set out to reach Math at Caer Dathyl, though with LleuÕs wound their journey was slow. They travelled through the forests of Eifynydd, and were given hospitality by the people that they met, for he was loved by those that he was lord over. GronwÕs men scoured the country for him, but because the people were loyal to him, he was not discovered.
